NEW YORK—Musicologist and concert pianist Dr. Alicia Zizzo says the Chinese New Year Splendor is “just gorgeous.”
“I loved everything about it. The dancing. The dancers. The perfection. The beauty of the dancing. The appearance of these beautiful people. It was just gorgeous,” she said.
She said she was “fascinated” by the music, the dance, and the backdrops.
“I loved the way they did the scenery with birds flying and the lights adjusting according to the story. That was fantastic.”
She said she was not familiar with Chinese music or ancient Chinese music.
“Honestly, because I am a musician, and because it was based on ancient Chinese dance, I was aching to hear only Chinese instruments accompanying the dances,” she said.
Dr. Zizzo enjoyed the drummers the most “because it was pure rhythm.”
The Chinese New Year Splendor continues in New York through Saturday, Feb. 9.
