LAS VEGAS?I> The Global Chinese New Year Spectacular made its 2008 Las Vegas debut on the night of January 21. As the first large-scale Chinese dancing and singing ensemble in the city, the Spectacular was quite an eye opener for the audience.
Mr. Tao Zhenyu, a food industry professional, told the reporter after watching the show, "Besides Chinese food, there has been nothing else that can truly demonstrate Chinese people. It is so good to have such a performance, the pure Chinese culture performance, in Las Vegas. It enables westerners to understand that China not only has great food, but also an ancient and profound culture."
Tao said, "Even though many Chinese people have emigrated overseas for quite a long time, there are very few things that can illustrate to the non-Chinese what type of spirit, culture and history the Chinese people have. That is why the Chinese New Year Spectacular show is very well done. If this kind of show were performed more frequently, [the non-Chinese] will be able to have a new understanding of Chinese people."
Tao said that the dance "Water Sleeves" captures a certain realm of thought and expresses inner meanings. It gives people a very cooling and peaceful feeling. The dance sweeps away the turmoil in the hearts of modern people.
Tao especially enjoyed the drumming. He said, "The drum is very powerful and prestigious. They really brought out the Chinese people's courageousness. This performance should come more often and have a greater influence."
